Creating a community about autonomous vehicles has been great. It gave me a chance to talk to people about a common idea where as i would have never spoken to them before. With all of us participating together, we definitely brainstormed a lot more, and took this idea farther than anyone working alone.
The downside of this community was the members who did not participate. They gave no input and therefore were pulling the community down. The main premises of what a community is, is a gated community where only ambitious people who intend to participate and put in their concepts can enter. Unfortunately these people had the right idea with joining and then fizzed out.
I did my best to keep those who were active, excited and participating while also trying to draw in those who were not adding anything. In the end, my event had a large turn out and they were all excited to be there; if the other members had gone, the event would not have been as fun or productive. I will not let the weakest link break the chain, they will be cut from the activities before that can occur.
I want to thank everyone who did become an active member in my community, without you, we would not have come up with the products/services that we did. In the next community I create, I will have a more strict registration process therefore weeding out those who are not passionate right away. My community will have a tighter lock on the gate which will in turn keep only members with a positive attitude inside.
